Ephesians 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men. (KJV)
Are you giving reasonable service?
Do you measure the level and quality of your service by the environment you are in? For your job, you might work some extra hours and not require payment. For your family, you might give up what you want for the desire of the group. At your church, you might take part, and serve in some capacity, on several ministries instead of one.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (NKJV)
Always remember, the work you do should be as unto the Lord, not for the praise, not for position, not for a promotion, nor status. When you reflect on the work you do, you are not the one who measures the level and quality of your service; the Lord is.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve. (AMP)
The Lord is with you everywhere, which means you are always working for (representing) Him no matter where you are. As a servant of God, you don’t do what makes sense to you. God compels you to do what He requires.
Acts 20:22 And now, you see, I am going to Jerusalem, bound by the [Holy] Spirit and obligated and compelled by the [convictions of my own] spirit, not knowing what will befall me there. (AMPC)
Be willing to offer all of who you are and ever hope to be, to serve without need for payment, to sacrifice without knowing how it will affect you, and bring glory to the Father because you are grateful for His mercy.
Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (reasonable, logical, intelligent) act of worship (service). (AMP, edited)
If you run after God with all of your heart, you won’t miss an opportunity to serve, now.
Please agree with me as I pray. Then ask the Lord what your prayer should be and wait for His response:
Father, every time I serve, I want to work as if I am serving You. I’m grateful You have shown me what it means. I should live a sold-out life all day, every day. I repent for those times when I do not. I am to be available for You. I am to do whatever You want me to do; whenever You want me to do it; with whomever You choose for me to work with; and however You want it done. I am to be open and willing for You to exercise Your sovereignty over my very existence. I repent for those times when none of those statements were true for me. Help me live my life remembering my service to You is to give myself to You, entirely, all that I am and all that You have yet to manifest in my life. I wait patiently for the opportunity for me to serve…
