Philippians 2:3

June 3

Philippians 2:3 No hidden agenda with a compromised mixture of leaven or empty philosophical flattery can match a mind that genuinely values others above oneself (TMB)

Do you have a hidden agenda?

What’s in it for me? Isn’t that what Peter asked Jesus? (Matthew 19:27)

Matthew 6:33 But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. (AMP)

Are you wondering when “all those things” are going to manifest? Maybe you are at the point where you don’t ask that question anymore? Have you passed the point of thinking about what could bless you; or who could bless you if you did…
ASK THE LORD WHAT HE WANTS TO SAY TO YOU ABOUT TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL AND JOURNAL IT HERE: ? There is no shame in wanting to be blessed. Not only has God blessed you and will continue to bless you, He also attached a promise to your giving.

Luke 6:38 “Give generously and generous gifts will be given back to you, shaken down to make room for more. Abundant gifts will pour out upon you with such an overflowing measure that it will run over the top! The measurement of your generosity becomes the measurement of your return.” (TPT)

You don’t always know who God will use to bless you. What you know is all blessings come from God and He has promised to bless you. You know they are coming. Why couldn’t it be because of something that you did? The thing is, what you may or may not get can’t be the motivation for your actions. Your motivation has to come from the pure desire to be of service to someone else.

Corinthians 9:7 Let each one give [thoughtfully and with purpose] just as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver [and delights in the one whose heart is in his gift]. (AMP)

When you give from your heart, you can “feel” nothing happened because of what you did. The good thing is, you won’t look back on your actions with regret. As a side note, something always happens; you reap what you sow.

Please agree with me as I pray. Then ask the Lord what your prayer should be and wait for His response:

Father, God, I never thought I had a hidden agenda. Thank You for requiring me to evaluate my heart. Thank You for reminding me my desires and my service have to be pure and unselfish. My only agenda has to be: Your glory. I can’t choose to do or not do something based on what I think the person could do for me. I want to be an instrument of Your service. For You to use me where, when and with whom, is a manifestation of Your sovereignty. I want to rejoice in every service I provide. You have shown me I am not wrong for thinking my deeds might be the beginning of something. As long as I am not motivated by a reward, I don’t run after what I think I should get, and/or I don’t pout if what I hoped might happen does not materialize. I repent for the times when my ideas took me down the wrong path. I will diligently examine my thoughts beforehand. I want You to get the glory out of all I do…
