On Assignment

Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. (KJV)

The military service administrative command makes the soldier’s first duty station selection. They usually do so while he/she is in either basic training or technical school. While the command will consider the soldier’s preferences, the overriding deciding factor is where the prevailing military need is. Command will also base some assignments on the soldier’s class standing. After the first duty assignment, command makes subsequent assignments a little differently. In most cases, the soldier will have a little more say in future assignments. However, restrictions still apply, and the need of the service always comes first.

The month of August deals with your assignment. You have a job that’s constantly challenging you. Unlike the military, you don’t get to choose your assignment. Like the military, the Lord’s will and plan come first. The great thing is, you work in a highly stimulating environment. You will learn a lot, and you will learn all the time. Being a soldier in the army of the Lord is a test of your attitude towards the Lord, a test of your ideas about your place in God, and a test of your ability to bend but not break. You learn to accept that you are in a war, whether you agree with it, like it, or understand it. Absorb everything the Lord speaks to you. Observe everything around and above you. Your knowledge of the Word is important, but your attitude is more important. Are you ready to roll up your sleeves, willing to take on tasks that may appear small or insignificant? Are you willing to work without being praised? Your assignment is not a big part of your life, it is your life. You should allow the Lord to shape it like an artist and build it like an architect. Envision each task as a patch of a big quilt; each role is a building block or a stepping stone. God has given meaning and divine purpose to your assignment. Value the foundation He is laying for you. Be faithful and do not despise small beginnings.
