Reconnaissance

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (KJV)

In the military, reconnaissance is a mission undertaken to obtain, by visual observation or other detection methods, information about the activities and resources of an enemy or potential enemy; or to secure data concerning the meteorological, hydrographic, or geographic characteristics. Reconnaissance is concerned with three components: enemy, weather, and terrain. You should understand that reconnaissance is active; it seeks out enemy positions, obstacles, and routes. Since movement draws attention, good reconnaissance uses stealth to avoid detection.

The lion is the king of the forest. He strikes fear at the sound of his roar. However, if the strongest lion is matched against the strongest tiger, the tiger will win most of the time . Why? Because the tiger is always on guard, more aggressive and ready to battle. You have to be able to identify what the enemy is doing to destroy you and allow the Lord to use it for your training. He may appear to be stronger, however, look close enough to see how you can win.

The month of September deals with reconnaissance. Your job is to understand what the enemy’s most affective vantage points in your life are. Where are they? How does he use them against you? What is he using to attack you, cause you to stumble, or even try to stop you all together? Does he attack you because of your personality? Does he use the environment in which you live, work, fellowship, or worship? Does he attack you with singular attacks or is his best method to bombard you, isolate you, and/or try to blindside you? What works best? You have to know your enemy. Know how he works, when he works, and what about you makes him successful.

Most importantly, in additional to knowing the enemy, your reconnaissance helps you know your strengths and your weaknesses. Don’t get defeated because you have not done your homework. Remember, you are the target.
